Overwhelmed by the scale of its archive, it is simply not possible for the British Museum's entire collection to be put on public display.

One of the British Museum's major strategic objectives is the creation of an array of digital assets through the digitisation of its archive.  Not just those items that are on public display, but the colossal number in physical storage in the museum's vaults.
